Participated in the LSI and System Workshop 2026

We participated in the LSI and System Workshop held on May 13–14, 2026, at Takeda Hall, Takeda Frontier Science Building, The University of Tokyo. The University of Tokyo Takeda Frontier Science Hall The participants from our laboratory were Professor Mahfuzul Islam, Researcher Aida, Xinbo Huang (D1), and Yutao Deng (M2).At the workshop, we presented our recent research, especially our chip measurement results on high-speed and energy-efficient true random number generators…

New members have joined

We are delighted to share that two new members have joined our research group. Yashmanth Chamala has joined us from India. He will be working on on-chip AI accelerators for inference and learning. He also has a keen interest on the Japanese language and its culture. He is already fluent in Japanese. Khorshed Fazlul Rafeeun has joined us from Bangladesh. He is a recipient of the prestigous MEXT scholarship. He…

TRNG paper accepted for IEEE TCAS-I

This marks our first major journal publication since launching the lab last year. Our work fundamentally advances true random number generator circuit techniques, paving the way for next-generation security and computing systems. To demonstrate its performance, we have successfully taped out a chip in a 65-nm process. This achievement reflects the dedication and talent of our team, and I could not be more proud. Exciting times lie ahead. X. Huang…

First tapeout completed in TSMC 65nm process

We are excited to share that we have completed our first tapeout after starting this research group. The three students, Xinbo, Deng and Fukuda has worked hard to make this happen. Especially, Fukuda is just in his 4th year of bachelor course. We are pround of their contributions and expecting to have several publications and awards out of this chip. In this chip, we have implemented several versions of true…

Paper on tiny true random number generator (TRNG) accepted for IEEE APCCAS conference

After our publication of an ultra-fast, energy-efficient true random number generator (TRNG) at the IEEE NEWCAS conference, another paper on a compact true random number generator has been accepted for the IEEE APCCAS conference. This paper solves the problem of random mismatch using a self-biased, auto-zeroed latch topology by introducing coupling capacitors in the latch structure. Additionally, we improved the operating speed by 100x with an equalizing mechanism. For the…

Paper on-chip true random number generator (TRNG) accepted for IEEE NEWCAS conference

Our paper on on-chip true random number generator (TRNG) has been accepted for the IEEE NEWCAS conference.  X. Huang and M. Islam, “High-speed energy-efficient true random number generator using self-compensating comparator,” in IEEE NEWCAS Conference, Jun. 2025, pp. 1–5.  Random mismtach has been a critical obstacle in achieving energy-efficient on-chip TRNG. Conventionally, a brute-force method such as run-time reconfiguration based-on past bit sequence has been adopted which is power hungry. We…

New members have joined

New members have joined our group in this October. Deng has joined as a Masters 1st year student. He finished his undergraduate from Xidian University, China. He has been a research student at the Kyoto University before joining here. Xinbo has joined from Institute of KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweeden as an exchange student. He is a Masters course students and will be taking several courses here along with…

Islam laboratory has started its journey

In this lab, we want to develop original ideas and new interpretations rather than increase papers. We want to work with bright students who can enjoy their development during the research process. Especially, we encourage students to become independent and apply themselves fully. We emphasize developing writing abilities, communication and presentation skills, and thinking out of the box in this group. It is challenging to do something different from others. It…
